Leather Goods Product Care

Leather Goods Profile
As your product wears, you may notice that the contours soften and a natural patina develops. This evolution, as well as natural features such as natural marks, wrinkles and veins, are to be expected and are testament to the uniqueness and authenticity of our products. Each impression leaves a lasting memory to be cherished forever.

To preserve the product's shape, do not overwrap it. When not in use, it is best to store it in the felt provided at the time of purchase in a ventilated area. Storage in boxes or near heat sources is not recommended as this will dry out the material.

Natural Leather This natural, vegetable-tanned cowhide is deeply rooted in Louis Vuitton's history. The hallmark of this leather is its transparency, which reveals natural marks such as veins and wrinkles, proving that it has not been treated. This fragile, easily scratched leather develops a rich amber patina, making each bag unique and becoming softer with time. This patina, as well as the wear and tear it acquires during use, symbolizes the product's authenticity and the journey it has taken with its owner. If the leather is stained before it patinas, do not attempt to clean it. Allow the leather to darken naturally and stains will become less noticeable. If the leather comes into contact with water, wipe immediately with a lint-free, light-colored absorbent cloth. We do not recommend the use of any solvents or chemicals for cleaning. Any home remedies that darken the leather, such as mink oil, saddle soap, leather conditioner or any type of substance, should be avoided as much as possible. These chemicals can damage the quality and integrity of the leather over time. Calf and cow leathers undergo a rigorous selection process to produce calf and cow leathers that are delicate, soft and silky to the touch. Only the finest leathers are used to meet Louis Vuitton's highest quality standards. They may have natural imperfections such as grain or wrinkles. These carefully selected leathers may be damaged by the use of any commercial cleaning agents. Substances such as oils, makeup, perfumes, creams or disinfectants applied to the leather can damage its natural beauty and performance. For surface stains, we recommend cleaning with a soft, damp cloth with water. Vernis leathers should be kept away from any material that could transfer pigments to the leather (e.g. magazines, denim, other leathers...). The risk of transfer particularly affects small leather goods. Direct sunlight should be avoided as the colour may fade. Light-coloured leathers may also develop a patina over time and develop a yellowish colour. Extraordinary creations with exotic touches

Due to the natural treatment of our exotic leathers, it is important to avoid moisture, spray and rain. Avoid contact with water, alcohol-based solutions (such as hand sanitizer) or any other liquids as these may alter the grain, cause permanent visible stains and colour transfer. If your bag comes into contact with water, immediately wipe the affected area gently with a light-coloured absorbent, lint-free cloth. Avoid direct sunlight as this may cause fading.

Crocodile, python and lizard leathers are particularly sensitive to humidity and heat. We recommend that you avoid any cleaning creams or products that can leave heavy stains on the product.

Fine pieces with metallic leather, beads, feathers, sequins or prints require special care and should only be cleaned with a soft, light-coloured, lint-free cloth.
